Beautiful, pristine, vibrant and largely unspoiled, the little island of St. Kitts is something very special on the Caribbean landscape. Steeped in military history, its magnificent Brimstone Hill Fortress has been superbly maintained and appears to still stand majestically guarding tranquil waters against hostile visitors. Inland the verdant landscape has rainforest and sugar cane aplenty, almost seamlessly going up to the top of the mountains. Sugar cane production colours the landscape, and even the island's quaint little train has to stop for the sugar cane carts that carry its crop to the factory.

Sleepy colonial Basseterre moves slowly, as do the wheels of business in St. Kitts, but overall nobody seems to complain. Change has come slowly, but with great impact. The new terminal at the port is a superb facility for the big cruise ships, the airport has been modernized and enlarged, the St. Kitts Marriot Resort is a Mecca for overseas tourists, and the Royal St. Kitts golf course is a magnificent challenge for any golfer.

The southern part of the island sits close to neighbouring Nevis and there can't be any nicer setting in the world to enjoy a sunset.

Who's Who in St. Kitts

The St. Kitts Music Festival has attracted a rich bevy of musicians over the past ten years including the great Dionne Warwick, Shaggy, Beenie Man and jazz star Arturo Tappin. Last year the cream of world cricket descended on the new cricket stadium and Australian cricket legends Ricky Ponting, Glen McGrath and Matthew Hayden fell in love with the island.

The buzz in St. Kitts real estate

Not surprisingly St. Kitts was slow to embrace the recent wave of interest in Caribbean real estate from overseas and the island's relative obscurity put it at a disadvantage with its better-known high-profile larger neighbours. But that's been changing significantly in recent times, not least through the thousands of visitors that have discovered this Caribbean secret hideaway. The St. Kitt's Marriott Resort and adjoining developments attract many visitors every week and this has stimulated the rental market and argurs well for property investors going forward. Limited product and an overall lack of international awareness may have been a negative in the past, but St. Kitts is rapidly making up ground and as its touriSt. industry gathers more momentum every year, thousands of visitors will enjoy this idyllic setting and from their midst property investors will emerge. To meet this increasing demand a number of developments have emerged in the last 12 months and the government has outlined its visionary plans to develop the southeast peninsula.

This is positive news for St. Kitts and its real estate product.
